How To Get the Most Out Of Your Workout.

When it comes to exercise, it’s not enough to simply go through the motions. If you want to see real results, you’ve got to move with proper form and focus. Moving correctly, effectively, and intentionally not only changes your body, but it can also change your life by allowing you to show up in the world with strength, grace, confidence, and an ability to stay present in the moment. Even a few simple tweaks can make a big difference to both your physical and mental performance. Whether you are just getting started or you want to take things up a notch, try these six tips to get the most bang from your barre practice, or any workout!

Six Tips to Get the Most Bang from Your Workout.

1. Burn to Earn

That burning and shaking sensation you feel when you overload your muscles or push them to the point of momentary fatigue? That’s the sweet spot where change happens. And while it might be tempting to quit or “dial it back,” don’t! Embrace the burn to earn the toned muscles you want.

2. Strive but Don’t Suffer

While there’s power in the burn, know the difference between “getting uncomfortable,” and feeling real discomfort. Barre is not a “no pain no gain,” mentality. Listen to your body and if you feel any discomfort or pain in your joints, it’s a sign that you are either pushing too hard, or you need to adjust your positioning. Good form is the key to great results.

3. Meet Yourself Where You Are

Everyone’s fitness journey is different so don’t be afraid to do what you need to make your workout work for you. There is no shame in taking modifications until you become more comfortable with your movements.

  • Take breaks as needed while you build endurance and stamina
  • Understand the form before increasing the reps
  • Incorporate more stretching to release sore muscles

4. Perfect Your Posture

Take your time and learn the proper form. In barre, we work primarily from a neutral, or natural curve of the spine. Keep your abs braced, pelvic floor engaged, and your head in line with your spine. Arms and legs should be extended with long, graceful movements. Don’t be discouraged if you don’t get it all at once. Practice makes perfect.

5. Breathe

Your breath is your fuel when it comes to exercise. Take big breaths to bring more energy into your body and deepen the movement for greater results.

6. Know Your “Why”

When you have a strong desire and passion for something you are more likely to stick with it. Knowing your “why” and connecting to it will help keep you consistent and establish good habits that last a lifetime.

If something is worth doing, it is worth doing well. Give yourself permission to be fully present in your workout, taking the time to tune in to your body, mind, and soul. Try these six tips to get the most bang from your workout!
