Reader Question from Kaitlyn E. via Twitter: Is it necessary to do extra cardio like running in addition to Physique 57 and if so which should I do first?
The great news is that Physique 57 combines strength, cardio, and stretch training, and more and more studies are proving the advantages of strength training. When one does pure cardio, the effectiveness is limited to the time that one is actually working out. With strength training, one continues to burn calories up to 72 hours after finishing the work out. Additionally, your resting metabolic rate increases when your body is comprised of more lean muscle versus fat. According to the American Council on Exercise, “muscle tissue has been observed to burn roughly 7 to 10 calories per pound per day, compared to 2 to 3 calories per pound per day for fat,” which does add up over time. As we target the entire body completely, you will sculpt and tone every area. And with our complementary stretches, not only will you look great, but you will feel great too!
We always recommend that people do a work out that they love, and so if that is running for you, then it is important that you continue. However, don’t feel obligated to cross train in addition to Physique 57. If done consistently, it can and does absolutely stand on its own. One thing to keep in mind is that, if you do plan to do additional cardio the same day as Physique 57, we typically recommend doing Physique 57 first and then your cardio.
