Guest Post: How Physique 57 helped me become a better runner

Every morning, I can be found getting my pulse on at Physique 57’s Upper West Side studio.  When I’m not at the barre or running, I blog for Sparkly Soul, a company that makes sparkly nonslip headbands seen at Physique 57 (scroll down for a 15% off promotion code)!

I have been taking Physique 57 classes since 2010 but it was only in March 2012 that I started taking classes on a daily basis. I used to run a 9:30/9:45 pace.  In May 2012 after I started hitting the barre more often, I started to notice an increase in my endurance and that I was getting significantly faster.  

I have run four marathons and my previous best time was 4:43 in the Philadelphia Marathon in 2009.  In 2012 when the NYC Marathon was cancelled, I signed up for the Philadelphia Marathon and completed it with a 3:50:29 time (8:47 pace).  My typical pace is now 8:30 and I attribute it to Physique 57 classes and my awesome American Cancer Society DetermiNation team.

Today, my routine is Physique 57 six days a week including Physique Stretch at least once a week. It’s a great complement to my Physique 57 classes and running because it helps me relax my mind and reinvigorate my body. During marathon season, I run 3 days a week (including one long run) and spin at least once in addition to my Physique 57 routine.  It’s truly thanks to my Physique 57 practice that my body is stronger, I feel less prone to injury, and my flexibility has increased.

I look forward to Physique 57 every day whether I am training for a race or not.  The classes make me a better person and runner.  I look forward to seeing how much faster I can get and how much stronger my body can be for the NYC Marathon 2013! I know my Physique 57 routine is going to be vital for my success.
