Lilly Watson Neubauer lives in Dallas, Texas, where she writes her lifestyle blog, Pancakes and Beet Juice, that shares ways her family stays healthy and balanced in the adventure and uncertainty of young married life. An avid Physique 57 DVD client, Lilly deployed to New York in December to work the Hurricane Sandy relief operation with the American Red Cross and spent her evening off visiting a beginner class at our 57th St studio.

Working for the Red Cross, you never know what the day might bring. I purchased the first set of Physique 57 DVDs right as I began my job, and they have been my greatest survival tools for keeping me feeling fit, healthy and sane in a way that works with my schedule. When I came to New York to work on the Hurricane Sandy relief operation, it was the longest I have ever been away from my home and family. I never expected a trip to the Physique 57 studio to be the touch of home I needed to get me through my deployment!

As a Physique 57 DVD client, I love keeping in touch with the program through their social media and always feel really connected to the community. Before my deployment, I was especially touched that Physique 57 hosted benefit workshops for the Red Cross when many of their New York studios faced closures due to Hurricane Sandy. It really proved that sense of community I have always felt from the program.

Red Cross disaster relief workers can face long hours and unknown situations, and our mental health staff emphasizes the importance of taking a day off every six days to rest and do something close to your routine at home. When I thought about how I wanted to spend my free time, I thought of the sense of accomplishment and endorphin boost I get after completing a Physique 57 DVD and booked my first studio beginner class! It was something special that I looked forward to in the days leading up to my visit.

Adrianna led my beginner class, and opened up with having us focus on what accomplishment we wanted to feel from class. I thought that I wanted to prove to myself how strong I had become in a year of doing Physique 57. While it was something that was meant for just our 57 minutes together, I continued to bring up her words of encouragement throughout my trip. “Think about what it is you came here to accomplish, you wanted to prove how strong you are!” became my mantra for Physique 57 and my deployment helping hurricane victims.

When there was a busy day at work or I missed home, scheduling a Physique 57 class for my next day off became the touch of “real life” that I looked forward to in New York. I learned that the sense of community and encouragement from the program isn’t something you leave in the studio or once you finish your DVD, but is a lifestyle that you begin to carry as someone who is strong and flexible both physically and as a person. I love the adjustments and tips I received in class and know they will make my at home training better. I’m so glad I took the time to challenge myself with a Physique 57 studio class and recommend it to anyone visiting New York or Los Angeles!
