In support of National Blood Cancer Awareness Month this September, Physique 57 has teamed up with Society Ties, the young professionals committee of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, to offer a variety of fundraising initiatives this month. Read about all the ways you can get involved here. This is a cause close to our heart as this past year NY Instructor and Director of Training, Antonietta Vicario won her courageous battle against Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She shares her story about conquering cancer at the barre with us here.

There are no words to communicate the sense of relief and gratitude that I feel being on the other side of this battle. I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma on July 23, 2015 and now a little over 1 year later, I have been cancer free for 8 months. There are so many ways that going through something like this changes you. I don’t sweat the small stuff. I am truly thankful for each and every day.

I prioritize the important things in life more- spending time with my family, my friends and with myself. I am more in love with my husband now than ever- the unsung hero who cared for, loved and was ever present by my side. I know who hung in there with me when things got rough and who wasn’t afraid to see the “real” me as I went through the physical and emotional toll that chemotherapy takes on your body and mind.

My 2 ½ year old son was my angel looking over me, giving me strength when I was in the dark and whose sensitive, caring soul has been formed by being a part of this experience. I know my courage, resiliency and bravery has no bounds and that when put through any test, I will fight with my whole heart and soul. I will keep moving forward until the one day that I can no longer, knowing that I lived my life to its fullest with passion, grace and integrity.

Through the past year, Physique 57 was a loving and steadfast community of colleagues, clients, and friends who astounded me with their support. The reciprocal bonds of strength and fortitude to keep going inspired me to carry on. From words of encouragement and love, to colleagues who stepped in when I needed to be at the hospital, to Fresh Direct orders, to Juice Press deliveries- I felt loved for and taken care of.

And because of all the blessings that this community has showered upon me, I want to give back. I hope that you can come and celebrate with me as we now throw our support to the next survivor. Let’s rally together throughout the month of September and back an organization that funds lifesaving blood cancer research and improves the quality of life of patients and their families.

I can’t wait to see you at the barre for this amazing cause!!!
