I used to struggle with figuring out how to create a balance between exercise, diet, and happiness. I knew the way that I was living was unsustainable and upon moving to New York, I looked for inspiration and fresh ways to get healthy. I began to run and started working for a yoga-inspired athletic brand where I found a group of coworkers and friends who would sweat together every day. I realized that NYC was doing something that I’d never experienced- turning exercise into a social and communal activity rather than another “to do” list item. Then I found Physique 57. Through the power of group fitness and this phenomenal technique, living a healthy lifestyle became easy and I am more and more confident every day. I discovered a fitness community, which I believe is the key to success in getting healthy. Whether you live in a big city and bounce from studio to studio, follow a series of DVDs from the comfort of your home, or prefer to run outdoors- you can find and build an exercise community of your own!

Below are 5 tips on how to create and find your fitness community:
1. Just reach out. To friends, coworkers, family members. We’re all working towards the goal of health and happiness, so why not achieve these goals together. You will be amazed at the results you will see through the power of camaraderie.
2. We are all athletes. When you can start to view yourself in this way and free yourself of judgement, you will soar.
3. Distance doesn’t matter. I got my family in Kansas on board as one of my fitness communities and we completed the NYC Marathon together last November. We’ve found that miles don’t matter when it comes to building an exercise community. With the use of technology, we stay connected and send each other daily updates, quotes, and stories to inspire and push each other to the next level.
4. Don’t be afraid to try something new. When you allow yourself to be open and keep your workouts fresh, you will unearth things you never knew you could love. Live in the moment.
5. Have fun. Working out doesn’t have to be a grueling task. It can be an opportunity to connect with a friend, try a new class, and then reward yourself afterwards. A mimosa or cookie suddenly seems guilt-free when sharing it with a friend post workout!
I hope that you find these tips helpful, inspiring and motivating. Remind yourself each day that you are beautiful, strong and capable of anything you set your mind to. You just have to believe in you!
