Earlier this week we took a look at why our muscles feel sore during or after a workout. This week, we’re offering you 3 tips on how to relieve muscle soreness.
1. Soaking in a bath with Epsom salts is always a good remedy to soothe soreness, as is rewarding yourself with some well-earned rest and relaxation time after an invigorating work-out.
Tip: Try chamomile-scented Epsom salts for a more luxurious experience. Most grocery or drug stores carry them.
2. Stay hydrated before, during and after your work-out. Keeping your body well-hydrated is essential for your body to function properly and for you to maximize your exercise potential. You will have more energy during your work-out, and it can help alleviate muscle cramping.
3. Do another workout within 48 hours to reduce some of the tightness you are feeling. Warming up the body by stretching and moving will release lactic acid build-up which is the cause of that sore feeling. Even if it seems counterintuitive, working out through your soreness can actually help you feel better.
